The Challenge
The client needed a respectful, reliable, and fast app to deliver Gurbani audio and video content to a devoted global audience. The app needed to support streaming and offline playback, handle a growing content library, and work reliably for users of all ages — many of whom were not technically experienced.
What We Built
We built a native Android app with categorised Shabad browsing by raag and occasion, integrated audio and video player with background playback, a devotional wallpapers section with social sharing, and a content management backend that allowed the team to publish new Shabads without app updates. The UI was designed to be simple and accessible for an older demographic.
Results
The app achieved 100K+ downloads and a 4.4★ rating on the Play Store. It serves a global Sikh community with reliable access to Bhai GurIqbal Singh Ji's Gurbani recordings. Background audio playback was among the most appreciated features in user reviews.

How did you design for an older, less technical audience?
Large tap targets, high-contrast text, minimal navigation depth, and clear audio controls. We avoided the icon-heavy UI common in consumer apps and prioritised legibility. The onboarding was entirely removed — users open the app to content immediately, with no sign-up required.
How does the content update system work?
The client's team can publish new Shabads and update the content library through a Firebase-based CMS without requiring an app update. Content appears in the app automatically within minutes of publishing.
